This spring LCC will make the shift to Gmail for all students. What are the primary benefits?
All of the above benefits are important, but the Apps for Education is my personal favorite. Google Drive is completely integrated with our Learning Management Platform (LMP) Canvas, which is why the eLearning office has been promoting and instructing on the use of Google Drive for the past few years. Google Drive is free, simple, and accessible anywhere anytime - not to mention the continuous save feature! It's saved my bacon a few times!
In March, Google released what they're calling "add-ons".
- Increased storage and decreased maintenance on servers
- Student email accounts will persist beyond their enrollment
- Google Apps for Education

All the bells and whistles are great, but what about accessibility?
Google has put together a collection of directions and resources for "blind & low-vision users" and/or "deaf & hard of hearing users".
There is also an accessibility instructional guide specific to Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides. In the guide you will find information on the features and options as well as instructions for Screen readers.
